Consumismo

"We're a new species, the baby of the Earth. And like a new baby, really disrupt things. But as we grow up, we don't seem to disrupt the family of life less. Instead, we consume Mother Nature.
When the consumption of something ... is killing us and we cannot stop consuming it, we are addicted. Addiction is degrading. Addiction is slavery. Addiction is *deadly*." Addiction progressively corrupts our spirit, our morality. It numbs our feelings. It saps creativity from our thoughts. It wears down our bodies. It is a progressive disease of our whole selves. Meanwhile, we addicts indignantly deny we have a problem.

Consumer addicts believe that the freedom to consume is the true measure of success or a measure of personal worth. On our weapons 'Protecting our vital interests' is a polite way of saying that we are willing to mug any country
that will not give us a fix.

It's how we were raised, latch key kids. Our schooling trains us ... to compete bitterly for goods and comforts. Meanwhile our parents are slaving in the markets of the consume society. We are given consumer goods instead of
the presence of our good parents. When 'goods' replace mother and father, we begin to suffer from Orphanism and become addicted to the 'goods'. We become addicted to Consumerism.

As individuals, as nations, even as cultures, we are losing our values. we become more willing to do almost anything to each other and are willing to make almost any nation our enemy in order to protect our supply. Competition, the compulsive component of consumer addiction, is bred right into us. Competition and compassion do not easily cohabitate. More and more we become the pawns, the salves of the pusher, and the employees of the multinationals.

Like all addicts we consider suicide. We do so individually. Suicide among the young increases ... We consider suicide as a culture, as a species, as a planet!
The only limit to the insanity of addiction is death. We must admit that we are powerless over consuming, and powerless over the consumign society - addicted.

The beginning of the cure is naming of the illness. When we admit that we are addicted, a huge burden is lifted from our shoulders. We become released from denial and freed to do something about getting well. No longer are we doomed to wander, lost, knowing that something, that everything, is wrong but not knowing what to do about it. We are able to move toward the answer."

A nossa sociedade fica mergulhada no consumismo.
Consumismo do consumismo.
